Megan James wins Chepstow Grand Prix Youth race

THE JAMES family were celebrating victory on Wednesday when Megan, the younger sister of Team GB cycling star Becky, won her race at the Abergavenny Festival of Cycling's Chepstow Grand Prix.

Megan was riding in the Youth A Girls race, which was one of the many support contests to the British Cycling Elite Circuit Series stage, and came home to win the contest in 28.34mins, which was 3.22mins quicker than second-placed Emily Abram. of Newport Youth Velo Cycling Club.

Indeed, with the girls riding among the Youth A Boys, Megan's time put her ahead of the 15th boy to finish the one kilometre loop of lower Chepstow.

That Youth A Boys race was dominated by Climb On Bikes CC's Joshua Sandman who went across the line to win in 24.53mins which was 38secs ahead of Cardiff's Brecon Burnett, of Maindy Flyers Youth CC.

Of the other races, the men's Under-23 contest saw Isaac Mundy, of Oxford University CC, just getting home by a second from Catford CC's Alexandre Touche.

Meanwhile, Iolo Dafydd, of Towyn Riders, took the Youth C race in a photo finish from Cardiff JIF CCs Jack Hastings.

Iestyn Jones, also of Maindy Flyers Youth CC, won the Youth D race by one second from club mate Ryu Roberts Hayamizu, but Climb On Bikes CC's Oliver Bryan was a runaway winner of the Youth E race, winning by eight minutes from the second placed boy.

And there was  a chance for local residents to get on their bikes and have a go themselves. Some people donned fancy dress to rider the course and have some fun ahead of the more serious competitors in the Elite Series race.
